TOPIC of the Day: What is Combination Skin?

Combination skin is just what it sounds like, basically a combination of oily and dry skin.  Most people with this skin type will get oily in their T-zone areas and be dry to normal in other areas of their face. Some may only get dry in one area such as your nose, chin, and forehead.  This can be difficult to manage through the day if the products you are using are not working well for your skin.

What Are Some Things You Can Do to Manage?

First choose products that are suited for your skin. Is your skin sensitive or can it handle most products without irritation? MOISTURIZE! I know your thinking moisturize? Why would I want to add more oil to my face? The truth is that when your skin is producing a large amount of oil it is unbalanced. So you need to get it back into balance. Making sure you are getting an adequate amount of moisture to your skin will keep it and you happy.

Another thing is watch the type of products you are using. Is your cleanser to harsh for your skin? Does your skin feel super tight after using your face wash? Then 5 minutes later you’re an oil slick? This could be the first sign your cleanser might be to strong. I am not telling you to stop using your favorite cleanser. If you choose to use the squeaky clean type then definitely make sure your follow up with a moisturizer.

Drink water!!!

Next, find a product that works for you like a primer or oil free foundation or powder. Personally I use Milk of Magnesia before I apply either my powder or foundation. This helps keep my oil tamed for most of the day. The chemical in the product works to fight the oil from breaking through my foundation. It does not work for everyone but it’s a cheap alternative to try.

Final Thought

Combination skin can be effectively managed if you choose the right methods that work for you! Yes it’s okay to experiment but at the end of the day we all want our skin to look like goddesses.

There are also other methods that are great to keep the balance with combination skin. If you have any further ways please feel free to share!
